The Madison County Board of Commissioners is considering a resolution to abolish the Madison County Board of Health. The commissioners intend to assume the Board’s role themselves, ostensibly to shield the Board of Health from legal liability in case of a lawsuit. However, in the opinion of many, including former commissioners, Board of Health members, health professionals, and lawyers who are familiar with local politics, this move is not related to liability but is instead a plan to take control of the Madison County Health Department and the authority to hire and/or fire the Health Director.
As concerned citizens, it is our responsibility to take action to STOP this “power grab.”
